Barbara Spencer is a well known oil and acrylic painter with her studios in Hilton Head, SC and Shelburne, VT. Art critics describe Spencer's work as "traditional in a Fauvist style. Her use of rich, bold color is both complex and uplifting". Her favorite subjects are the low country coastal landscapes and the mountains, architecture and gardens of Vermont.
Her special activity is painting en plein aire. Together with it, photography is her other source of inspiration.
Barbara has been the winner of many awards and has been chosen to show her work in many juried shows. Her paintings are to be found in many private collections nationwide.
Barbara grew up in Madison, NJ, attended college at Wheaton and Radcliffe College in Massachusetts and worked as as adverising copywriter in NYC prior to moving to VT. She and her husband operated a family business in Vt before retiring.
Art has always been very much her life especially since the move to HHI where she stepped into a active and vibrant art community.
She can be reached during winter months in South Carolina and during the summer in Vermont.
